Australia is an incredibly vast and diverse country where you could spend years travelling and not see it all. But at least you could start scratching the surface with our ultimate top things to do. You’ll find all kinds of activities listed below, including climbing iconic bridges, learning about the indigenous culture, tasting the exquisite food of aussie life, and getting up close to local wildlife.
All gap years are exciting and new to the person undertaking them, but some are more generic than others. Spending a year in Europe, South East Asia or Australia is hardly trailblazing (as fun as it might be). The best way to have a unique experience is to travel the road less taken. In this day and age that is almost impossible, but there are routes that are less standard than others when it comes to gap year adventures. The highlight of any trip comes from the experience of connecting with others from different backgrounds that you meet while on your travels. It’s so easy to just stay in the British bubble, and it is just that much more rewarding to break out of it. The British Bubble provides comfort in an otherwise strange environment, yet prevents you from experiencing the country you’ve chosen to visit to the fullest.
You’d be amazed to find that though people may be different on a surface level, ultimately they are exactly like yourself. Ask about where they go on a Saturday night, what their views on politics are, how they celebrate holidays, where they want to live when they “grow up,” etc. It’s these types of connections that can bring the world closer together, and it’s this kind of cultural understanding that can make positive differences for our future.

A gap year abroad is a unique opportunity to escape your familiar surroundings and push yourself to discover, learn and develop as a person.
