Bonfires, burning effigies and sky-splitting firework displays are a UK favourite on the 5th November. If you’re a international student looking to take part, then this is the list for you. East Sussex, Battle
With an annual Guy Fawkes bonfire has been held at Battle in East Sussex for over 300 years. Battle plays host to more than 30 bonfire societies all dressed up in their various traditional costumes, these include Saxons, matadors, clowns, pirates and several other characters seen about during rural Sussex. So grab yourself a costume as Halloween is not over and take part in this unusual bonfire night.
Sheffield, Yorkshire
Yorkshires bonfire night attracts more than 18,000 spectators and is situated in the county’s most eccentrically named venue, ‘the Done Valley Grass Bowl’. Nothing sounds better right? With a live stage and a band whose identity has been kept under wraps this year, you will be in for a party. There will be music, fireworks, food and fire spinners. Don’t miss out on a real night of fun.
London, Blackheath
Blackheath has had fireworks displays for over 403 years and it could be said to be one of the most impressive and most anticipated firework display in the city. With music starting around 7:30 there will be food and drink. So make sure you wrap up warm and experience the city in truly all its lights.
Staffordshire, Tutbury Castle
If you’re looking for a new way to interpret the story of Guy Fawkes, Tutbury Castle will give you one at a Viking angle. A torchlight pitched battle ‘to the death’ by our Nordic cousins will be leavened somewhat by demonstrations of Viking games. There’ll be fireworks, of course and a beautiful barbecue too, so much shows you wrap up warm and unleash your inner Viking.
Cambridge, Midsummer Common
If you’re studying in Cambridge this year and want to try something different than the regular partying, why not visits the lovely Midsummer Common in central Cambridge. With over 25,000 people attending its annual fireworks display, this is one place not to miss. There will be fire dancers, funfairs, food and a ceremony of the lighting of the bonfire. So make sure you get there nice and early as it finishes at 10pm.
